The Night Before… the first day back to school

Image

And the children say ” my this bus ride home is magical”     My children and myself are enthraled by the Harry Potter Series.  We’ve read it through twice and are making our way through the films as the children age ( some of those scenes are frightening for them!).  This is how I ended up with the Day Bus..which by the way was handed onward to the bus driver as a present!  She was thrilled and so were the kids and I!!  Enjoy!  Oh…the art part…this is a giclee print on cold press watercolor paper based on a photograph taken on a snowy day!.

Choose to Dance

Standard

this artowrk has a lovely fluidity to it...movement and dance come to mind for me..unfortunately I do not know the artist but love the work!

Well then,,I’m getting to this quite late tonight but with two little ones just getting to sleep, this is my first chance to sit.  So today I managed to read two e-mails/posts from people I know….one I know well as a friend, the other through my business.  Interestingly, they both through their comments, pointed to the same metaphor for living ones life to the fullest and both involved a choice and dancing.  I was struck by this.  Two very different people, different walks of life, different parts of the world who both felt they had been burdened by life and age a little too much and felt the need to engage in an activity that, for most of us, signifies a state of bliss, one that is completely unencumbered….. dancing.  I certainly feel that I have chosen to ‘dance’ rather than the alternative and am exuberant about having made that choice for myself and my children.  They still dance all the time because they are still so young but I have chosen to dance with them..in defiance of my age and in defiance of all that life brings.  So my friends…dance……live enthusiastically!

Another day another shoe!

Standard

Ok…so the first version of this did not save so here it is again.  This shoe is completed using USA camouflage from the 1980’s.  I decided to use camo because I served in the military myself for 16 years and met some of the greatest people from all over.  So these shoes are a tribute to all the soldiers I met over the years.  Some of my faves were British, Canadian, Danes and Australians although I am sure they’re all great!!  So these are for all you soldiers out there, men and women, and the women you love ( mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, girlfriends and wives).  The shoes are also menat as a tribute to the women who love soldiers!!Have a great night!!

And the shoes would be nice too…I think….although LV may be a little affronted by their use.

Change is already happening! Who knew?

Standard

So this is my second day of being a blogger and yesterday I wrote about change and inspiration so I looked around my house and found some more.  A little over a year ago I started making art again, something I gave up as a teen for more..hmm…how was it presented to me..”more realistic pursuits..ones that will get you a job”….well, I found my art again and I realized that I have already made some dramatic changes in my life evidenced by the state of change in my “studio” space from November 2010 to the present day.  See photos below or wherever they happen to appear (I hope..bear with me, I am very new at this)…I think you’ll be able to figure out which is the present day photograph!

First day out of the gate

Standard

Well, as my first day out I thought I could talk about the little inspirations that entered my life today.  You see, I have been putting the pieces in place to create a major life change for myself for a little over a year now and today, my first day back on the job, I received some inspiration to “keep on keepin’ on” as they say.

First, there was some great music, Bob Dylan Hey Lady Lay from his comeback tour in 1974.  The fact that his tour was about change and returning to something he loved with a slightly different perspective just spoke to me.  Second was the news that one of my staff had been engaged over the holidays in an “against all odds” sort of story.  I thought this event also to be of great significance and inspiration to me.  Sometimes when things happen like this I often take that to be a sign of good things to come and as I previously mentioned a source of inspiration.

The third and final was, again, music, a classic from Led Zeppelin played to celebrate the birthday of John Paul Jones.  In all these situations, I found a common theme…that is, people can do amazing things to overcome all sorts of barriers and to survive just about anything.  I see it in my work everyday but for some reason, today I listened to the message a little more closely.  Starting this blog was about sharing my thoughts, experiences, love of art, music and the human condition, as I keep my goal in sight.  Who knows where I’ll end up with it..but I feel the journey is, and likely will be, of equal if not greater significance.
